Nathan Bawuah: lost his life aged just 17

Teen guilty of killing Hackney teen

IT WAS ONE teen against another back in February: one of them died, and one of them was found guilty of manslaughter at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 29th November.

Police established the basics of what happened very quickly. Just before 11pm on Saturday, 17th February, 17 year old Nathan Bawuah was stabbed in Hackney Road, E2. The police and London Ambulance Service sped to the scene. They did their best to try to save Nathan, but he died at the scene.

The police investigation of the incident included reviewing a great deal of CCTV – and this led to their breakthrough. They found footage of a young man cycling to the scene and meeting Nathan. The two began a confrontation – and the cyclist produced a machete and stabbed Nathan in the chest. And police were able to identify the cyclist.

The cyclist did not co-operate with the police investigation. He did not answer questions and provided the police with a statement saying that he had acted in self-defence. Four days after Nathan died, the cyclist was charged with murdering him and with possessing an offensive weapon.

The cyclist pleaded guilty to the second charge. However, he was found guilty of manslaughter, rather than murder. He will appear at the Inner London Crown Court on 24th January 2025 for sentencing.
