WE ALL fear falling ill – especially with those serious conditions such as a heart attack, a stroke or diabetes. However, there are ways to help yourself avoid the worst problems – by “knowing your numbers”.
These serious conditions don’t usually appear just out of the blue. Usually your body is hinting that you are developing a condition – but that doesn’t help you if you don’t know what the signs are.
For the last week Tower Hamlets Council has been running a “Know Your Numbers Week” – inviting residents to get a check up in a Health Check Kiosk in an Idea Store. It is easy to get your weight and blood pressure checked. If you have high scores, there is advice on what to do about it. This may include going to your GP. If your “numbers” are at warning level, you know that you have to deal with them. This is annoying – but not as annoying as ignoring them and going on to have a heart attack, a stroke or diabetes.
The good news is that the health check kiosks are there all year. Do yourself a favour; check yourself out; and deal with any Naughty Numbers.
