JANOMONGAL SHOMITHY Bohor Gram UK hosted a Ramadan community Iftar party at the Ensign Youth Club in Wapping. Approximately 250 people attended the popular annual get together in recognition of the charitable activities of the respected collective.
Janomongal Shomithy is the oldest Trust of its kind in the Bangladeshi region of Sylhet and is engaged in various charitable endeavours in the Bohor Gram part of Sylhet. These centre on the promotion of healthy living activities and helping students with educational support.
Former Tower Hamlets Speaker Councillor Rajib Ahmed was among the guests and paid tribute to the team, saying “I would like to congratulate everyone at Janomongal Shomithy Bohor Gram for another great year and to commend the volunteers on the array of provision of support services for those who need it the most.”
Mohsin Ahmed attended the event. He said, “We’ve enjoyed a nice evening – meeting up with old friends and making new ones. Janomongal Shomithy Bohor Gram is an example of how a small organisation can make a big impact through the dedication of volunteers.”
Guests were welcomed by joint convenors Jobrul Islam Loni and Rafique Uddin Mashuk. Islam said, “We had to choose a sightly larger venue this year to accommodate our supporters. We are an old and established collective but our success is largely dependent on the goodwill of our supporters. I’m delighted that we are able to host another Iftar event in Ramadan to evaluate and celebrate another year.”
