Bollywood superstar of over 100 films Akshay Kumar is preparing for a busy new year as he looks forward to the release of his new film Airlift. It’s an edge-of-the-seat thriller based on a real incident which occurred in Kuwait in the 1990s during the time of the Gulf War – due out on 22nd January.

Next year will be extra special for Kumar, as this star of over 100 films will be celebrating his silver jubilee in the industry with the release of Airlift as well as Houseful 3 (a comedy) and Rusotom (a suspense thriller).

Perhaps this is why Akshay couldn’t resist a bit of a spoof tweet the other day. It was based on a picture Deepika Padukone tweeted of herself with Hollywood star Vin Diesel with the disclosure of the news that she is to star in the new XXX film opposite the action star. Diesel also put out a picture of the duo on his Instagram.

Akshay Kumar dieselInspired, Akshay posted a spoof of Deepika’s photo on Twitter, involving himself, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh (the stars of Houseful 3) posing with a mannequin – titling the photo “Vin Petrol”. Riteish later shared the picture again explaining that their photo was worth more than the original as “the price of petrol is higher than diesel.”

Busy Akshay ended this year sharing the news that he will be playing a baddie in the superhero sci-fi film Robot 2 – a sequel to the 2010 blockbuster film Robot (Enthiran). Directed by S. Shankar and starring Amy Jackson, Akshay Kumar and superstar Rajinikanth, the film will be shot in 3D and will release in Tamil and Hindi.

As Robot 2 went on the floors, Akshay Kumar took to social media (above) to share the news with his fans when he tweeted, “Ending the year on a high note. Super excited to be a part of Robot 2 with the one & only @superstarrajini sir!” The movie is also believed to be the most expensive Indian film, being made at a budget of over Rs 250 crore.
