Season of Bangla Drama returns to Tower Hamlets

“CURIOUS” is the theme of the annual heritage and creative expression festival that is the Season of Bangla Drama – and playwrights have responded to the challenge in a variety of ways.

Mayor Lutfur Rahman

Let’s ask Mayor Lutfur Rahman to explain why residents – and the wider Bangla community – look forward to this annual event.  “For 23 years, A Season of Bangla Drama has been a unique celebration of our vibrant British Bangladeshi community and an important part of Tower Hamlets’ cultural life. It continues to provide a platform for established and emerging artists alike, while welcoming audiences from across London to experience the richness of Bangla culture. I hope audiences from the borough and beyond will enjoy this unique and wide-ranging programme, embrace curiosity, discover new stories, and make lasting connections throughout this wonderful month of theatre and creativity.”

The festival brings together established performers and new artists. Playwrights have explored this year’s brief and returned with a range of work – from hard-hitting historical narratives to modern satire. Works cover themes such as identity, migration, belonging, family secrets and transformation.

Works will be performed at the Brady Arts Centre, ArtsOne, Kobi Nazrul Centre, Root/25 and various other public spaces. There will be performances in Bangla, English, Sylheti and other languages, with organisers hoping that people from all backgrounds will come and enjoy the works. As well as performances on these stages, there will be a fringe programme of workshops and activities for the whole community.

●The festival runs from 1st-29th November. Many events are free or pay-what-you-can. For more information and bookings, the Council suggests you go to:
A Season of Bangla Drama
Sadly there is no list of A Season of Bangla Drama on that page. You can go to the general events page here:
Events
There are “no results” if you apply the Season of Bangla Drama filter.  If you nip through to page 12, you can see November’s events. Sadly, at the time of writing, no events were listed which appeared to be part of the Festival.
We hope that Tower Hamlets Council will make a programme of events available soon!
