Dagenham chimney fire – a safety warning to us all

A CHIMNEY fire is no small event. The one in a house in Rosedale Road, Dagenham on Sunday needed three fire engines and around 20 firefighters to attend the property to bring the blaze under control.

The fire was in a mid-terraced, two-storey house. One adult and two children left the property before fire crews arrived. A second adult was escorted to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus. Fortunately, there are no reports of anyone being injured.

The fire Brigade received a report of the fire just before 11pm. Crews from Barking, Ilford and Dagenham fire stations came to the fire. The fire was brought under control by 2am. The fire is believed to have been accidental. Home owners and landlords should follow the before safety tips issues by the London Fire Brigade. Most importantly, get your chimney swept before lighting your first fire of autumn.
