DEPUTY MAYOR Cllr Maium Talukdar added his thanks to the many foster carers who came to the Council’s fostering celebration event earlier this month.
The Deputy Mayor, who had been Cabinet Member for Children for the last four years, was well placed to appreciate the help that foster carers provide. “We take great care to support families,” he explained, “but sometimes things go wrong. That’s when foster carers step in – as a safety net. We are so grateful to them for making a difference to the lives of our young residents.
“You can’t teach a child who doesn’t have a stable and loving home life. Foster carers help children whose own family lives have been disrupted to regain stability and carry on with their studies. Our foster carers don’t only help children in the present – they help these children secure their future too.”
The Deputy Mayor attended the celebration alongside Cllr Faysal Ahmed, who represents Spitalfields & Banglatown ward. Cllr Ahmed has taken over the Children’s Services brief. He is the new Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Life Chances (another job title from the Ministry of Silly Names). Cllr Ahmed added his own thanks to the appreciation given by other speakers.
