Island Network lays on the Easter Eggs

THE VOLUNTEERS OF the indomitable Island Network are delivering over 400 Easter Eggs to elderly residents on the Isle of Dogs. The eggs have been funded by the Canary Wharf Group.

The Easter treats are an addition to the food parcels and meals the volunteers have been taking round during the lockdowns. Much as the volunteers know that their regular deliveries of store cupboard essentials are welcome and sustaining for residents on low income, it makes a welcome change to be able to add a seasonal treat.

The team has distributed eggs to St John’s TRA Seniors, Strafford Street Friendship Club Seniors and St Edmund’s Seniors. The next deliveries will be to Samuda Seniors, the Barkantine Seniors, the John Tucker Club and the Friends of the Island History Trust seniors. Going round with Network Chair Maium Miah Talukdar last Thursday was Melanie Goldstein, Community Affairs Officer for the Canary Wharf Group.

“This is eggs-actly the sort of thing we like to do,” said Island Network Chair Maium Miah Talukdar. “It’s a cracking feeling when we scramble the volunteers and we all roll round the Island dishing out the Easter treats.”

The eggs wait patiently to be taken on delivery
