Over the festive season, when junior citizens are getting bored and clamouring to be let out, it’s tempting to agree to go out for a family walk – but why stick to ground level? Until now, Go Ape’s forest adventures have all been just that – in a forest, and therefore out of London. Happily for us city dwellers, a new Go Ape adventure trail has just opened in Battersea Park – still a bit of a trek for us east Londoners but nonetheless much nearer than our nearest forest.
This is the 29th Go Ape to open in the UK. It’s the first outside a forest environment. Nonetheless, it’s still true to the original concept, offering the usual Tree Top adventures and a Tree Top Junior course for adventurers under 1.4m tall – all in the heart of Battersea Park.
The experiences are physically challenging, with the highest obstacle crossings double the height and many twice as long as the usual Go Ape courses. There are over 40 crossings, including a thrilling 50 metre zip wire.
Tristram Mayhew, Chief Gorilla at Go Ape, personally welcomed the first guests a couple of weeks ago. Watching them make their way round, he said: “We’ve long wanted to create a high wire tree top adventure in the centre of London. There’s already a real buzz and sense of excitement and we’re looking forward to welcoming many more Londoners over the coming months and seeing if they’re up to our new challenges.”
