Community group holds Ramadan Dementia Friends session

The British Bangladesh Society celebrated Ramadan by breaking fast with members of the community while also taking part in an inclusive Dementia Friends information session.

croydon df 3The session was delivered by Emdad Rahman MBE and hosted by Chair Nasir Ali. Guests included Humayun Kabir, the Deputy Mayor of Croydon along with Councillor Patsy Cummins, Deputy Member for Finance; Elizabeth Ash, Chair of the Croydon Community Consortium; Parahat Akmuradov from the Lighthouse Society; and community leaders Ghazala Mirza, Jubayer Kabir, Mumidul Islam and Mahbub Uddin.

Deputy Mayor of Croydon Councillor Humayun Kabir accompanied by Deputy Mayoress Rahena Chowdhury Kabir said, “The number of people living with dementia is increasing at an alarming rate and it’s very important that we raise awareness levels. I’m proud our community came together to not only break our Ramadan fast together but to also promote the great work of the Alzheimer’s Society.”

croydon df 1A Dementia Friend learns a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action. Anyone of any age can be a Dementia Friend – whether you attend a face-to-face Dementia Friends Information Session or watch the online video.
Dementia Friends offers a way to learn more about dementia and the small steps you can take to help individuals and communities. From telling friends about Dementia Friends to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.
