DRIVING could be the cause of a collision in Rainham on Tuesday that injured three pedestrians – including a toddler. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward – especially some members of the public who stepped in to help at the scene.
The collision took place on South End Road, Rainham – with reports coming in to the emergency services at 3.24pm. The police, the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade all attended.
The vehicle which hit the pedestrians was a dark blue Mercedes A180. The driver was apprehended by passers-by, who did not let him leave the scene and who ensured that police were aware that he had been driving the vehicle when officers arrived. Those passers-by do not seem to have left their details with police, who are anxious to contact them to help establish exactly what happened.
Police arrested the driver on suspicion of drug driving. He was taken to an East London Police Station and has since been released while the investigation continues.
Three pedestrians were injured in the collision and were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. Two women, aged 25 and 32, are still in hospital, with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening. The two year old boy who was injured is in a stable but more serious condition.
