Marc Quinn’s Making Waves

If you know someone who’s a fan of artist and sculptor Marc Quinn, don’t ring them up on 20th July – because they’ll be at the Hackney Picturehouse, watching Gerry Fox’s documentary on Quinn and then seeing both of them do a Q&A.

Quinn’s been leading a hectic life, following his art all around the world. One moment he’s at the unveiling of “The Archaeology of Art” (some giant bronze seashells he’s created) in New York; and then he’s off to Venice to oversee the reworking of his sculpture of Alison Lapper, which sat on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square). Next he’s in Hong Kong and Istanbul for exhibitions of his work (including the notorious “Self” – a model of his head made of his own blood) – and then he’s back to London to show his giant bronze orchid at the 2013 Chelsea Flower Show. The globe-jetting has all been filmed by Gerry Fox, so fans can watch Marc Quinn making waves across the world as he hob nobs with celebrities and revealing much about the other side of the art world.
