LESS THAN a week after Masum Miah was found dead in Newham, a man has been charged with murder.
The man charged has been named as Sergiu Leahu, 40, of no fixed aggress.
Mr Miah was found with gunshot wounds in his car in St Bartholomew’s Road in Newham at 3am on Tuesday, 18th August. Gunshots had been heard in the area, suggesting that Mr Miah had been shot at the scene. The emergency services attended the scene but were not able to save him.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan Whitten, who is leading the investigation, said, “Our thoughts remain with Masum’s family as they come to terms with his tragic death.”
He added that the police are still appealing to the public to come forward if they have any information which could insist the ongoing investigation.
“If you were in the area at the time of the shooting,” he said, “witnessed anything suspicious, or have any dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage that could support our investigation, we urge you to get in touch. No matter how big or small the information you have is, it could prove vital in helping us piece together the full circumstances.”
He also mentioned some new information, saying, “We are specifically appealing for anyone who saw a black Nissan Juke in the vicinity of St Bartholomew’s Road between the evening of Monday, 17th August, and the early hours of Tuesday, 18th August.”
