Man charged with impersonating police officer in Stratford

A MAN has appeared at Thames Magistrates Court charged with impersonating a police officer. He has been named as Martin McCarthy, 29, of Fairfoot Road, E3, in Tower Hamlets.

It is alleged that McCarthy impersonated a police officer in the course of an incident which occurred around noon on 29th January in the Stratford Centre, E15. A member of the public reported that a man was behaving suspiciously.

Following a police investigation of the circumstances which led to the report, McCarthy was charged with impersonating a police officer and with blackmail.
