Badru murder: family calls for public help

ONE MONTH AFTER Abraham Badru was shot dead, local police and his grieving family have appealed once more to the public to come forward with information to help identify who murdered this public spirited young man.

The murder was committed at around 11.10pm in Ferncliff Road, Hackney, E8 on 25th March. The police have offered a £20,000 reward to anyone who provides information which leads to the prosecution of the killer or killers.

The police would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time, but they would also like local residents or people who were in that area at other times to think about whether they saw anyone acting suspiciously in the days leading up to the murder. Abraham had come home unexpectedly, after changing his plans and it is not clear if he was the intended victim of the killing. Had someone been watching the area beforehand? Were they watching Abraham – or someone else? Above all, detectives are urging the public to think about whether they remember seeing a white bicycle.

DCI McHugh said: “Abraham was a striking young man and a real contributor to society. He was awarded a National Police Bravery Award in 2009 after intervening in a rape and then giving evidence in court. Such courage and an overwhelming sense of what was right and wrong clearly demonstrated his strength of character.”

Family statement
Ronke Badru, Abraham’s mum, said, “It’s been a whole month since my only son was taken away from me and while my heart is breaking, I have no justice to help me find peace. I cannot find peace without justice because Abraham matters, he is not a statistic, he is not a fiction, he is my only child and now he is gone.

“If you know me, you know that my son and I were joined at the hip. Our purpose in life was to take care of each other and it is impossible to think that someone can take his life and continue living theirs.

“Abraham was not violent and had no gang affiliation. In fact he hated fighting. My son was a respectful and loving boy who strived to make his parents proud and get the most out of life. He was compassionate and always willing to help everyone around him. All I ask is help in making sure his death was not in vain.

“For almost 27 years I dedicated my life to bringing up a beautiful boy and all of that was taken in the blink of an eye. Please understand, as a mother who has lost the only child she had in this world, I am sure someone would have seen what happened, I need to know who did this to my child.

“Please help me find them.”

The tag #AbrahamBadru has been added to many tributes posted via social media.
