Poplar Shahjalal Mosque volunteers feed homeless citizens

Emdad Rahman

Poplar Shahjalal Mosque worked in unison to deliver a hearty winter community meal for homeless citizens. Mahmud Choudhury co-ordinated the gathering, as several volunteers from the Mosque prepared, cooked and served dinner to the guests.

As part of an interfaith partnership, Sister Christine Frost provided use of the facilities and the hall at St Matthias Old Church for the gathering. The volunteers also mingled and chatted with the homeless guests as all involved enjoyed a few pleasant hours together.

Poplar Shahjalal Mosque Chair Faruk Ahmed commented, “Our community always comes together to support those who are needy. Unfortunately homelessness is on the increase and we are proud to play our small part in helping to eradicate it.”
