United Madrasa Championships celebrates ten years

The United Madrasha Championships organised by Newark Youth London has celebrated ten years of holding its annual sports day.

The championships took place at Mile End Stadium, London and were led by the founder Arif Abdurrahmaan and Newark Youth London trustee Zia Rahman, leading 9 activites alongside Emmanual and Shanur Miah.

This year seven schools from Tower Hamlets and surrounding boroughs such as Newham and Hackney participated in athletics, javelin,shot putt, relay racing 100m-200m, long jump,high jump and triple jump activities.

Madrasahs in attendance included:

– Mazahirul Uloom London
– Darul Hadis Latifiah
– London East Academy
– Jamiatul Ummah
– Hafs Academy
– Lantern of Knowledge

Overall, the London Islamic School (LIS) won most of the trophies and further developments include a girls school sports day Madrasah championships to take place in the future.

Founder Arif Abdurrahmaan commented, “The lack of space for Physical Education activities at Madrasahs are limited and over the years this championship event has enriched the lives of the students whilst encouraging interaction with other young people, which is essential for their personal growth and development, mental health and wellbeing along with academic excellence.”
