Typhoo – putting the “oo” into the Diamond J“oo”bilee

As Jubilee fever grips the country, Typhoo is putting the “oo” into the Diamond J“oo”bilee with a limited edition commemorative blend based on the tea the nation was drinking in Britain 60 years ago.

Typhoo has been producing Great British Tea since 1903 and has worked with its master tea makers to create a limited edition J“oo”bilee blend based on the ingredients that Queen Elizabeth would have enjoyed when she ascended the throne in 1952. The blend will be a mix of Typhoo’s fine selection of teas, keeping in line with their long and rich heritage. Jimmy Medhora, Master Blender at Typhoo, commented, “We wanted to create a blend that stayed true to the period but also suited today’s palate as there have been many changes in how we enjoy our tea over the last 60 years.”

Typhoo has also teamed up with its official brand ambassador and royal correspondent Ben Fogle to celebrate this momentous occasion and launch the J“oo”bilee blend. Offering his top tips on how to create a Jubilee street party fit for a Queen, Ben said, “Getting the opportunity to be involved with the Queen’s Diamond J“oo”bilee with Typhoo is a great chance to offer the public some royal protocol inside tips on how to make their street parties a little bit special.”

Ben’s tips include advice around the etiquette for both preparing and drinking tea.

•Preparing tea etiquette
When making tea for guests, it is especially important to heat the teapot first with boiling water. Leave the boiling water in the pot to heat it up and then pour it out again, leaving an empty, warm teapot. You then place your tea leaves in and add freshly boiled water.
After three to give minutes brewing time, the host or hostess should pour the tea through a tea strainer into china cups and pass them around the table for people to add their own milk and sugar to taste.

•Drinking tea etiquette
When stirring tea, swish the tea back and forth, making sure never to hit the sides of the cup. Never leave the spoon in the cup but gently rest the spoon on the saucer, behind the cup, with the spoon handle on the right side under the cup handle.
Tea should be drunk by lifting the saucer and cup together, with the saucer in one hand and the cup in the other.

To celebrate a remarkable reign, all at Typhoo Tea will be raising a teacup to her Majesty on 5th June. Why not join in?
