Three charged after acid attack in East Ham

THE POLICE  are appealing for witnesses to help them solve an acid attack case in East Ham which saw a young man suffer life-changing injuries.

The victim, 24, was walking along Burges Road, E6 at around 4pm on Monday, 12th February when a silver Lexus displaying the number plate Y56 PWJ drew up alongside him. There were four young men in the car, who appeared to be aged in their late teens or 20s.

The four men asked the victim where he was from and then got out of the car and went up to him. They assaulted him with a brick and threw a corrosive substance into his face before getting back in the car and driving off towards High Street North, E6.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a south London hospital, where he continues to receive treatment for serious injuries.

Four days later, the police arrested three men aged 27, 23 and 26 – who have since been charged with offences related to the attack. Now the police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to come forward and help them establish exactly what happened and why.

DS John Macleod of Newham CID, said, “This young man has been through a traumatic experience, one which will leave him with permanent reminders of the distress inflicted upon him. We’re keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the surrounding area at the time of the attack, or may have seen a silver Lexus heading in the direction of High Street North.

Although [two] men have now been charged, we’re still keen to hear from any witnesses and anyone who may have heard anything since. We are also continuing our search for the silver Lexus that was used by the suspects.”

Anyone who can help police with these inquiries is asked to contact Newham CID via 101 and quote reference CAD 5017/12FEB18. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously.
