The Thames today

TODAY WE continue with our occasional series The Thames today.

The Thames forms the southern boundary of four East London boroughs: Tower Hamlets, Newham, Barking & Dagenham and Havering. In one way it is a barrier, sealing off one direction of exit. In other ways, it is a magnificent natural resource, which most of us take it for granted.

Today’s photo was taken at lunchtime on 23rd November 2021 from the south side of the Blue Bridge on the Isle of Dogs – but this time looking north west. The new buildings in Canary Wharf, Heron’s Quay and, most recently, Wood Wharf are towering over the once magnificent dockside cranes – but the cranes retain their dignity, as they remind us of our local history.

If you have a photo of the Thames which you would like to share with our readers and viewers, please send it to us on eastlondonnews@gmail.com, stating when and where it was taken and whether you would like a photo credit.
