Scintilla Cricket Club roared back to their winning ways as both the first and second XIs recorded notable away victories against Ace CC and Newham CC.

Scintilla fielded a full strength side and the team was bolstered by the return of powerful all-rounder Sajal Rahman. Aaman Khan and Ishaq Shawn also returned to the first team and the trio were in go-getting form as Scintilla overpowered Ace at the Low Hall sports ground in Walthamstow.

Ace won the toss and decided to field. Ishaq Shawn struck 40, with Bellal Hossain and Aaman Khan adding 28 and 26 respectively from 32.5 overs. Ace CC bowlers Shibbir took 4/40 and Shah 3/28. After that, 27.1 overs were all that were required to bowl Ace out for 83. Aaman Khan took 3/23 (6 overs), Hassan Rony 3/11 (8 overs) and Sajal Rahman 2/4 (4.1 overs). Scintilla CC won the match by 67 runs.

Scintilla captain Ayaz Karim said: “The players showed grit and character to overturn the morale-sapping loss to Barking CC last week. Our momentum is building and we are beginning to click. There is room for much improvement to be made and the great thing is the players are aware and I know I can rely on them to put together a winning run.”

Speaking in front of the Mohsin Beg Pavilion, man of the match Aaman Khan said: “I am fortunate to be surrounded by a great team and I dedicate today’s win to all my colleagues at Scintilla. It was nervy at the beginning but we achieved a win that will boost our confidence looking ahead.”

Fourteen year old David Macauley had his first taste of league cricket. The Sidney Russell pupil from Barking and Dagenham took to the field to make his Scintilla CC debut as twelfth man. Gushing after playing his part in a resounding victory, Macauley said: “I’m really happy and want to thank club captain Ahmed Choudhury for giving me my chance to play. It was just great being out on the field with the champions. I hope I have a long career with this team.”
