Orient trounce Norwich in pre-season friendly

THE PRE-SEASON encounter at the Breyer Group Stadium began with both teams laying a wreath in the centre circle in memory of the late Justin Edinbugh.

The move was welcomed by applause from the crowd. Profits from the match are to be donated to the JE3 Foundation, in memory of Orient’s former manager, who died unexpectedly earlier this summer.

When the action began, Orient took just two minutes to hit their target, but the shot was saved. Norwich took 15 minutes to mount a serious challenge on goal – but the crossbar intervened and deflected Jaiysemi’s shot, and the score chart stayed clean.

But Jaiysemi had got his eye in, and shortly after he short at close range and Norwich got their opener. Orient went in at half time without having found a reply.

It took the Os 15 minutes of the second half before Sam Ling crossed to Angol, who sent a perfect shot to the back of the net. Just before full time, Josh Wright turned the draw into a home win.

Orient are now preparing to meet Cheltenham Town next Saturday in the League Two opener.

The Orient Open Day tomorrow – Sunday, 28th July – will go ahead, but heavy rain locally means that the planned friendly against London Bees cannot go ahead. The Day will begin with a players’ warm-down session on the pitch at 11am and will end at 1.15pm with a player signing session.
