Man dies after Hackney shooting

A MAN HAS DIED after being shot in Clapton late on Friday night, 5th June. The incident occurred in Brackenfield Close, E5 at approximately 11.30pm. The victim is thought to be in his 20s.

The police and the London Ambulance Service went to the scene, but sadly the emergency workers were not able to save the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.  His next of kin have been informed and formal identification of the victim is awaited.

The area remained cordoned off on Saturday morning as the police investigation began with a detailed search of the area. The investigation is being led by homicide officers from the Specialist Crime Command. Police also obtained a Section 60 order, allowing them to stop and search suspects anywhere in Hackney up to 3.15pm on Saturday.

During Saturday, a 22 year old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He is being held in custody at an East London police station.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine said, “Following initial enquiries we know that there were people in Brackenfield Close at the time of the shooting. I would urge those people, and anyone else who has information that could progress this investigation to get in contact immediately. This is a tragic incident that has resulted in the loss of a young man’s life and has left his family and friends devastated. If you can help us find those responsible, then please get in contact.”
