Five injured after police chase in Ilford

A POLICE chase through Ilford ended with the police car being involved in a collision in the early hours of Saturday, 16th May. Five people were seriously injured and five people have been arrested.

The police explained that officers saw a vehicle which they believed had been stolen. They tried to stop the suspect vehicle, but it drove off and the police gave chase. The police have reported that the vehicle they were chasing crashed into another vehicle at the junction between Barley Lane and High Road. An eye witness told the BBC that he had seen “several” police cars driving down High Road towards the scene of the collision.

This was a serious incident. Paramedics and the London Air Ambulance attended the scene of the collision. A total of nine people who were in the two cars and one person who was driving a moped were injured. All but one were taken to hospital.

A woman in her 20s who was driving one of the vehicles was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, theft and failing to stop. She was among those taken to hospital, where she remains. Four passengers in the car she was driving – a woman in her 40s, two men in their 20s and a 14 year old girl – were arrested on suspicion of being in a stolen vehicle.

Police have asked for anyone who has information about the incident to contact them.
