Fire breaks out in Aberfeldy Village

A fire broke out in a residential block in Aberfeldy Village late last night (Monday, 31st January 2022). Residents reported seeing flames leaping from the top floor of an eight-storey block of flats which local sources named as Lighterman Point.

The London Fire Brigade tweeted at 11.21pm that ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters had been called to a fire on New Village Avenue. It later emerged that the fire had largely affected a single flat, and firefighters were able to bring it quickly under control.

Local road closures remained in place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, as firefighters worked to dampen down the embers and ensure that the building was safe. The A13 was closed for a period of time and drivers were warned to avoid the area.

The fire brigade rescued one woman from the flats, who received medical treatment at the scene.
