7TH MAY is thought of as “polling day” across East London. But if you are too young to vote, and you’re thinking of studying at Tower Hamlets College, that’s also the day when you can go and find out more about the College.
Tower Hamlets College, as the locals know it, is technically part of the federation known as New City College – of which it is the “Tower Hamlets Campus”. It still dominates Poplar High Street and still educates a large part of Tower Hamlets’ teenagers – and some residents who have said good-bye to their teen years but are nevertheless returning to education.
The Open Event offers you a chance to:
•tour the facilities and classrooms;
•learn more about full-time specialist courses, part-time, and adult learning options
•chat with tutors and current students
•get guidance on applications, careers, and student support
The “campus” boasts a good record of helping students get into top universities and high-level apprenticeships; good facilities to support learning; and a modern environment. One problem about Tower Hamlets College was that there was no canteen on the premises, leaving students clustered round Poplar High Street’s fast food joints at lunch-time, or just wandering aimlessly around. Now, the Campus says, there’s a Costa Coffee lounge and a Subway on site.
Once you’ve made sure that everyone in your home has voted, why not go along to the Open Event and see what the Campus has to offer?
