World Gin day: what a tonic!

One day back in 2009, Neil Houston had the idea of bringing his friends together to drink gin. Then, he thought – why restrict the day just to his friends? The World Gin Day has now grown into a global celebration of this fragrant nectar. Whether you’re already a fan of the juniper spirit, or looking for an intro, World Gin Day is the perfect opportunity to get involved for anyone and everyone over drinking age.

Last year (2013) Emma Stokes took the reigns of the annual event with a simple concept: get people enjoying gin together all over the world. World Gin Day returns for its sixth year on Saturday 14th June 2014.

World Gin Day is a celebration of all things gin, giving us a legitimate excuse (not that we need one) to mix up a cocktail and learn about all of the exceptional gins that are currently on the market.

As well as encouraging everyone to get into the juniper spirit, be it with tonic, in a Martini, Sling or Fizz, there will be a whole host of events going on, alongside parties and competitions.

The headline event, however, is the first ever official World Gin Day Party, Gin And Jazz, which will be raising money for Malaria No More. This is a fantastic charity, who strive to put an end to malaria by taking a pragmatic, scientific approach to the issues surrounding the disease and its spread. Inextricably linked with G&T, due to the antimalarial property of quinine found in tonic water, there’s no more obvious cause for World Gin Day to support.

Make sure you’re following Gin Day on http://worldginday.com and Twitter (including the #WorldGinDay hashtag) to keep up to date with the latest news and events!
