THE US crew member who ejected from his F-15 fighter jet when it was shot down by Iran has been found in Iran and rescued. The news came just after 5am UK time, when US President Donald Trump announced it on his social media.
Trump claimed that the US had been monitoring the missing man’s location since he disappeared. He also revealed that the serviceman had been injured when he ejected from his aircraft and announced that no US service personnel had been killed or injured during this second rescue operation.
President Trump revealed that “dozens of aircraft” had been involved in the rescue of the weapons systems officer. There seems to have been some “engagement” between US and Iranian forces during the US rescue operation. Iran claimed that at least three Iranians had been killed by US air strikes in the search area.
Iran also conducted air strikes on Bahrain, the UAE and Kuwait which it described as retaliatory. Kuwait reported that strikes had targeted a government building, an oil complex and two power generation and water desalination plants.
Since the news of the shooting down of the jet by its air defence system, which President Trump had previously claimed the US had destroyed, Iranians had also been looking for the missing man. Iran has claimed that it shot down a US drone which was searching for him.
