Sylhet District Golf, the newly formed association representing golfers from the Sylheti community in the UK, held its first-ever official meeting and tournament at the renowned Golf World Stansted on Sunday. This historic gathering marked the launch of the Association’s mission to promote golf within the Sylheti community in the UK, alongside celebrating their recent victory as reigning Bangladeshi District Golf Cup Champions.
The meeting took place at Golf World Stansted, a facility known for its state-of-the-art practice facilities, expert coaching, and family-friendly amenities. In addition to its premier golfing facilities, the venue also offers Foot and Mini Golf, making it an ideal location for all ages. Families attending the event enjoyed a wide array of activities, with the venue providing halal food options to cater to the needs of the diverse community.
The winners of the first inter Sylhet District tournament were also announced at the closing ceremony:
1st Place: Rofu Miah (Essex), who demonstrated excellent skill and consistency throughout the tournament.
2nd Place: Ali Askar (Streatham), who showed impressive potential and narrowly missed the top spot.
3rd Place: Jakir Ahmed (East London), whose performance captivated the audience.
The event not only celebrated these individual achievements but also underscored the collective success of Sylhet District Golf, who are the current champions of the Bangladeshi District Golf Cup.
Their recent victory has solidified the team’s position as a formidable force in community golfing circles, raising hopes for future triumphs.
The association’s founding committee was formally introduced during the meeting:
Chairman: Mr Alam Khan (Essex) shared the association’s vision of encouraging greater involvement in golf across all ages and skill levels.
Vice Chairman: Mohammed Abedin (East London), highlighted the importance of building community through sport.
Treasurer Koyes Choudhury (East London) will ensure the financial growth and sustainability of the association.
Secretary Arosh Ali (Milton Keynes), will be responsible for communications and administration.
Sylhet captain Mursalinur Rahat who led the team to their District Cup victory will have a bigger role to play going forward in reaching out to the community whilst inspiring his players to reach new heights.
With the successful conclusion of their first meeting and competition, Sylhet District Golf is looking ahead to future tournaments, aiming to uphold their championship title and expand their reach within the community. The association invites families and individuals of all ages to participate, whether they are beginners or experienced golfers.
