Leftley Sports Club become Dementia Friends

Ismael Rahman

Ahead of a weekend of sporting activities, Leftley Sports Club (LSC) arranged for members to participate in a Dementia Friends session. Members of the sports and wellbeing group convened at the Barking Learning Centre to learn about dementia and how to support those affected.

Participants included Zoinul Abidin, Head of Universal Services, Community Solutions at the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham; Shamim Ahmed; and LSC treasurer Forhad Altafi.

LSC chair Muhammed Ali commented, “this was an insightful and eye-opening session on Dementia Awareness, delivered by Emdad Rahman, who is a Dementia Friends Champion. Leftley Sports Club respects all of our members, and we understand the importance of maintaining and improving both our physical and mental health. We strive to support our community by bringing positivity and enrichment to our lives. With Mental Health week coming up, we will try to hold another information session to benefit our community.”

Dementia Friends Information Sessions are run by volunteer Dementia Friends Champions, who are trained and supported by Alzheimer’s Society. Each Information Session lasts around one hour. You will learn more about dementia and how you can help to create dementia friendly communities. There are information sessions running across England and Wales. For more information, go to:
