EuroHockey: England’s teams face must-win matches

THE EUROHOCKEY Championships, currently underway in Antwerp, Belgium, have left Team England on a cliffhanger after the two teams each played two matches.

The men’s team were off to a shaky start, with a 2-2 draw against Wales and then a 2-0 defeat by the home team, Belgium. Goals in the first match were scored by Sam Ward and James Gall. The men’s team face Spain today (Tuesday) – a match they have to win to stay in the championships.

The women’s team started out with a 2-1 victory over Ireland – an impressive scoreline after a hard fought match. England’s goals came from Giselle Ansley and Suzy Petty. This was followed by a 1-1 draw with Germany, with Lily Owsley getting on the scoresheet for England. The women now face Belarus on Wednesday – a match they too must win to progress to the semi-finals.
