Dagenham man ran gun factory in garden

AS A NATIONAL amnesty tries to take converted top venting blank firearms off the streets, a reminder comes from Dagenham about how easy it is to convert the guns into even more lethal weapons.

Luke Parr

Luke Parr, 23, of Maxey Road, Dagenham, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a firearm, possession of amunition and manufacturing firearms. He returned to the court on 10th February and was sentenced to a total of ten and a half years in prison.

Parr’s downall began when he was arrested in June last year on another matter. Police searched his home – and found a workshop in the back garden which Parr had turned into a firearms conversion factory. Some of the weapons Parr had converted were Turkish-manufactured top venting blank firers (TVBF). A national amnesty is in place this month in an attempt to help take TVBFs off the streets because converted firers area increasingly being used in serious crime.

Detective Superintendent Tim Mustoe said, “From a shed in his back garden, Parr was able to turn blank firers into guns that could be used to cause serious harm on the streets of London. It is right that he has been sentenced to a lengthy term in prison.”
