Cite Your Sources at the Chisenhale Gallery

THE CHISENHALE Gallery is half way through its current exhibition – a display of paintings and objects presented by London-based artist Mandy El-Sayegh.

The works challenge the everyday order we are used to, exploring the these of representation, abstraction and subjectivity. As we produce and circulate images and materials, how do we construct a meaning?

The exhibition is dominated by pages from The Financial Times newspaper, which interrupt the white gallery walls and the floor – displaying their content, a focus on global finance, as well as a unique colour and texture. Elsewhere, El-Sayegh plays with technique, layering images to present fragmentary images of the body.

Once you’ve voted in the Euro-elections, round off your day with a visit to the gallery to hear Gareth Longstaff, Lecturer in Media and Cultural Studies at Newcastle University, talk about his response to El-Sayegh’s work.
If you’re aged 5-11, you can head down to the Gallery at 2pm on Saturday, 18th May and take part in a making and drawing workshop (take your parent or carer) based on responding to El-Sayegh’s exhibition.
Both events are free – but booking is advised.
