Wapping rider gets his bike back

WHO SAYS THE police never recover stolen property? A string of quick work by police, following information from the public, earlier this month saw a stolen motorbike being quickly returned to its owner in Wapping.

The story began on 23rd October, just before half term, when police attended a Wapping resident whose motorbike had been stolen. Following the meeting, the officers began an investigation.

The lucky break came just five days later, when a member of the public called police to report that two men had been seen dismantling motorbikes in a garage in Lewisham. Police went along to the garage and soon it became clear that the men were working on two motorbikes – and both had been stolen.

One of the bikes had been stolen from Manchester, and police helped it make the long journey back up North to be reunited with its owner. The other bike was the one which had been stolen from its owner in Wapping!

Two men, one in his late 20s and one in his early 30s, have been arrested on suspicion of theft. The investigation continues.

Inspector James Beattie from the Roads and Transport Policing Command said, “This was a great result. A quick response from officers from Roads & Transport Policing Command saw two men being caught in the act of dismantling the motorbike. Police work around the clock to crack down on motorcycle theft. We encourage all users to follow the advice on vehicle security. By reporting thefts, it helps to build patterns of behaviour and leads to results like this one, where we have arrested two people and recovered not only the bike they were working on but a further bike, which can be returned to its owner.”
