Two charged with Ilford assault

TWO MEN have appeared in Court in connection with a serious assault which took place at approximately 5.20pm on Friday, 24th August, at the Lynton House car park off High Road, Ilford. Police were called out at around 7pm.

The two men, and their victim, are all believed to be Lithuanian nationals who were all homeless but who spent a great deal of their time in the Ilford area.

The two assailants were charged on Sunday with committing Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH). They appeared in custody at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court the following day and were remanded to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on 24th September.

The victim, 33, was taken to an East London hospital by the London Ambulance Service. He remains in hospital, where his condition is described as critical.

Detective Sergeant David Doig of East Area CID said, “Enquiries are ongoing to establish any motive, however we believe that the victim argued with two males in the area around two hours before the assault. Although two men have been charged, I need to hear from anyone with information and in particular anyone who witnessed the assault or the earlier argument.”

Anyone who saw the men arguing or who witnessed the assault or has any other information is asked to call officers from East Area CID via 101, quoting CAD 6253/24Aug. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800-555 111, where you can give information anonymously.
