With one round of games still to play, Team London were crowned Inter City Cup champions in spectacular fashion, wrapping up the title at the tail end of a dominant campaign.
Game one in Maidenbower was a tense and nervy showdown against second placed Birmingham Legends. In a match full of high stakes and tight margins, it was Masum Ahmed who broke the deadlock with a hotly contested winner. Despite Birmingham’s protests, the referee judged the ball had crossed the line. A stubborn and resolute backline, led by Mamun Uddin, Saim Hussain, and Mofojul Ali, soaked up waves of pressure to preserve a vital clean sheet.
In game two, London faced a fierce challenge from KSE. Masum Ahmed again opened the scoring, but KSE fought back to level. The encounter was end-to end, but Nasim Ahmed’s composed play in midfield kept London steady. Md Raqeeb Shamim’s agility in making three point blank saves was a huge point in keeping the scores level. Sherif Ahmed nearly stole it late on, and a hard earned point moved London within touching distance of the title.
The final game sealed the triumph in emphatic style. A 5-1 demolition of Luton confirmed London’s place at the top. Masud Miah and captain Aktar Hussain were nothing clinical, scoring two apiece, while Helal Uddin delivered a creative masterclass with four assists – his vision and delivery proving instrumental.
The result was the icing on the cake of a memorable campaign.
Team London full back Mamun Uddin said: “We’ve worked incredibly hard for this moment. Every player gave their heart. Defending was a team effort, and this win means everything to us.”
Captain Aktar Hussain added: “It’s been a long road, but the team spirit has been unbelievable. I’m proud of every single player. This is for the community.”
Head Coach Emdad Rahman commented: “The boys have been immense. This was about belief, unity and representing our city with pride. What a journey!”
