A rainswept friendly fixture saw Jagannathpur take the spoils as the boys in white beat Beanibazar 2-0 at Stepney Green Park.
Shah Ali beat the outstanding Abdul Salik to score the opener as Jagannathpur made a rare first half foray into the opposition half. As the rain beat down, Beanibazar stepped up the tempo and reverted to a back two of Amran Ahmed and Kamal Chowdhury. Hamid Yusuf joined Imdadul Haque and Ruhul Alam to bolster the midfield with Afazul Haque, Abu Jamal and Abdul Komor switching positions to spearhead the attack.
Despite enjoying 70% possession, a goal failed to materialise for Beanibazar as several chances went begging. As the seconds ticked down and referee Jamal Uddin was preparing to blow the final whistle, a counter-attack saw Ali seal the game at the death.
Coach Mujahid Hussain was reflective in his summary. “We had a job to do and we executed it perfectly. My team contained the opposition well. Our keeper was on top form and we took our chances on the break. Going a goal up early doors meant Beanibazar had to attack as the clock ticked down, and with that we are able to wrap up the game. I’m very pleased with the overall effort tonight.”
Beanibazar player manager Emdad Rahman MBE said, “A loss is always hard to stomach, but the team were immense. Each man fought for each other and even spilt blood (Ruhul Alam). Our interlinking and attacking play had our opponents on the back foot for the majority of the game and we were unlucky with our chances. Well done to the Jagannnathpur team on a gritty, well fought win – especially the fantastic Hashim between the sticks. He is my man of the match.”
