The South East Asian Martial Arts Association (SEAMAA) performed one of numerous Martial Arts show at the Eid Souk’s variety show.
SEAMAA consists of martial artists who practice the south East Asian Martial arts of Kalis Ilustrisimo (from the Philipinnes) and Silat Buka Lingkaran (from Indonesia and Malaysia).
The Kalis Ilustrisimo group led by Guru Shamim Haque opened the first day with an explosive demo of ‘Full Contact’ stick fighting, showing the speed and ferocity of the sporting side of the art. This was followed by students performing the traditional stick and dagger techniques found in Kalis Ilustrisimo. Guru Shamim Haque then demonstrated the use of the barong (a leaf shaped blade) to deadly effect.
The dynamic, explosive combat fighting system of Silat Buka Lingkaran lead by Ashraf Miah an apprentice instructor; performed beautiful synchronised combat movements of explosive power, strength, flexibility , balance and with elegance of movement, beautiful to the eye and synchronised to traditional music!
Last but not least were children and students from the Malmesbury Community Project, based in Caxton Hall Bow, performed Dramatised Stage combat scenes. The dramatised fight entertainment started with seven year old Radiaya Islam, who took the audience with surprise with her performance with her Silat kicks and a split on centre stage; finally taking on ‘scream killer in a mask with axe’ from the film Scream and then joined by two skeleton demons to save the scream killer, but her father (Abjol Miah) was round the corner to save the daughter from the demon monsters! This was choreographed and directed by Abjol Miah; senior member and instructor of Kalis Illustrisimo group UK, who said: “It’s a fantastic initiative to get young people active in Martial Arts. We hope we can expand on our success at the Eid Souk with more live performances –and recruit more young people to take up the art.”
This show had something for everyone; young and old, people with Martial Art background and none; or if you just wanted some entertainment!
It all come to a fantastic end with lights out, sound track on with “Glow Sticks” show displaying colour full movements in the dark that took the audience again with surprise!

An excellent blend of mainstream theme with martial arts and drama. The young people from Malmesbury Community Projects have given a lot of time and effort to make this a success with the Silat masters. I hope this show hits our mainstream theatres soon!

Great to see our local Malmesbury Community Project making a splash, with great Martial Art practitioners like Guru Shamim Haque and our own Uncle Abjol, at the Eid Souk 2011 with our young talents. Well done Radiaya and Yasin and young people from Caxton Hall. Keep it up! Next time hit the movies!!
