RIDE FOR YOUR Mosque is back again – giving you the opportunity to adopt a healthier lifestyle while also raising money for the East London Mosque. This year’s event is on Saturday, 29th April, from 10am to 5pm. Riders will depart from the East London Mosque and cycle to Box Hill in Surrey.
The Mosque has been expanding in recent months – as the new Maryam Centre was completed and the nearby Synagogue building was recently acquired. Now it wants to pay off debts incurred in that expansion and is looking for donations to help it reach that stable, debt-free standing.
The Mosque is also keen to see members of the local community adopt a healthier lifestyle, so there is a genuine hope that those who take to their bikes for this one event will not only raise money but will also be inspired to cycle more frequently.
The planned ride is some 30 miles long, and experienced cyclists will be on hand throughout the day to ensure that riders stay safe. There will also be refreshment stops along the route. The care taken with the planning will ensure that the event is suitable for novice cyclists as well as more experienced riders.
The event is open to men and boys aged over 16 and the deadline for registering is Friday, 21st April. Riders will be asked to contribute a £30 registration fee to raise at least £300 in sponsorship. They will have to provide their own bikes and helmets – as well as suitable clothing for the unpredictable April weather.
All riders will have the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping the mosque and themselves – and the top fundraiser will receive an opportunity to win an Umrah Ticket.
