The iconic Workhouse in Poplar will host the Mawlana Thohur Uddin Memorial Cup where football teams will compete to be crowned inaugural champions.
Mawlana Thohur Uddin was the founding member of Ford Square Mosque as well as the founding Principal of London Islamic School, Ford Square Maktab and Darul Uloom Ford Square.
All participating players are former students and graduates of the London Islamic School and Darul Uloom Ford Square and as well as competing on the pitch there will be a no holds barred contest to raise money for a new extension building of a school in Bangladesh.
Students of the Sylhet based institute are comprised of mainly orphans and all funds raised will be used to complete construction, pay student fees, feed students and also supply much needed books, uniform and stationary.
On behalf of the event management team Arif Abdurrahmaan commented, “This is a noble legacy project in memory of a community pioneer and we are fortunate to be able to bring together generations of students who have directly benefitted from the efforts of the late Mawlana Thohur Uddin. We request everyone’s prayers, well wishes and request your support on the day.”
