LIS students smile with joy on GCSE results day

London Islamic School (Ford Square Madrasah) students were smiling with joy on GCSE results day last week. 88% of students achieved five A*-C grades, while 67% of students achieved five A*- C grades including English and maths. The school is a one form entry, yet it was able to achieve a total of 31 A*s, 45 As, 57 Bs and 49 Cs overall.

High flying students included Mir Jawwad Uddin, who achieved 10 A*s and 3 As. To top it off, he achieved an “A” grade in A-Level Maths! Abdirahman Awil achieved six A*s, 4 As and 1 B. Ahmed Dayah Farah Ali achieved 5 A*s, 4 As, 1 B and 1 C. Naji Ali achieved 3 A*s, 4 As and 3 Bs.

An overwhelmed Mir Jawwad Uddin said, “I am grateful to the Teachers of London Islamic School for not only educating me to achieve such good GCSE grades and an A-Level in Maths, I am more grateful for the way they have helped build my character and personality as a God-conscious British Muslim.” Jawwad has now been selected for a scholarship at the prestigious City of London College, where thousands compete to enroll into yet only the elite achievers have the privilege of attaining a scholarship. He has also been through the rigorous recruitment stages for the Channel S 3G Boss show and been selected as one of the 12 candidates who will be competing in an Alan Sugar style young apprentice show for a senior apprenticeship opportunity with the Canary Wharf Group. The shows will be aired in early 2016 on the cultural Channel S SKY TV channel.

All students have remained within education, with most moving on to local colleges and some moving on to boarding institutions or staying at London Islamic School to further their Islamic studies. What was even more impressive among this group of students was the fact that on top of these great GCSE achievements, eight students were able to complete the memorisation of the complete Qur’an while others completed the preliminary classes up to intermediate level in Islamic Sciences, providing them all with solid foundations in both spheres epitomizing the schools primary objectives of developing upright British Muslims.

Mr Abdulhadi Mamon, National Curriculum Co-ordinator at the London Islamic School, said, “Alhamdulillah, we are very proud of the achievements of our students and pray they are able to take these results to do wonderful things in their lives. More importantly for us is for these students to contribute to British society and present a good image of Islam to everyone.”

London Islamic School was one of the schools which were visited unannounced by HMI Ofsted Inspectors in December 2014 as part of the blitz of inspections of faith schools in Tower Hamlets. It was the only school which passed all regulations, allowing their full inspection report from March 2014, in which the school achieved a “Good with outstanding feature”, to stand. The school is now looking move a further step further in the next academic year by improving this year’s results further, as well as the number of ‘A*’ and ‘A’ grades gained.
