Kids make a big Splash at Care Home

Local youth in Tower Hamlets visited a local care home to serve food to elderly residents and to help build links between the young and old.

The six youngsters from Splash Life Skills Project were fasting and despite this they cooked up a feast and packed food bags to be distributed to those living at the residential sheltered accommodation scheme for elderly and vulnerable citizens.

“We need to spend more time with our elderly people,” said Amina Jahan. “They did so much for us and it’s really important we remember that one day we will be the same.”

Her friend Nazifa Begum added, “I love meeting older people. They’re so funny and witty. I really enjoyed preparing food and serving them. I would do it again and I hope more people will look out for our older people.”

Supervising youth worker Amrana Begum concluded, “This is part of their learning. I’m proud of my youth group. We do practical real life activities and it is the best education they will receive. These girls will always look out for our community.”
