The Inter City Cup Band of Clubs (ICBC) rolls into Maidenbower, Crawley, next weekend for Match Day 7, promising another round of thrilling veteran football. Competing teams include Kent, Sussex, Essex, Luton, Birmingham, and current league leaders London, who remain in pole position after six rounds.
After a shaky start to their campaign, Luton’s resurgence during Match Day 6 saw them scoop nine crucial points, lifting them off the bottom of the table. Their late surge has breathed new life into their season, and they’ll be pushing to build momentum in Crawley.
KSE will also look to make a mark after steady performances in previous fixtures. Team captain Abdul Munim commented ahead of the weekend:
“The ICBC gives us more than football, it gives us purpose. For many of us veterans, this is our gym, our therapy, and our community all in one.”
The Inter City Cup is more than just competition – it’s a lifeline for seasoned footballers. The league offers a physical outlet for ageing athletes, a mental health boost, and a social community where bonds extend beyond the pitch. Regular participation helps reduce isolation, supports wellbeing, and keeps former players actively involved in the sport they love.
Organisers and players alike speak of the ICBC as a footballing revival and a chance for past talents to relive their passion while staying fit and mentally sharp. It also opens doors to coaching, mentoring, and leadership within local communities.
With only a few match days remaining, the race to the top intensifies. As Crawley prepares to host the next chapter, the Inter City Cup continues to show how football can inspire, unite, and uplift.
