Ramadan Roundup is set to screen at the
Limelight Film Awards

Ibrahim Rahman has had his short film nominated for this year’s Limelight Film Awards – the largest set of independent awards for short film in the industry. The 24 year old’s short film Ramadan Roundup 4, shortlisted alongside three other entries under the Freefall category, is the fourth episode of a short and humorous web series called Ramadan Roundup, created and presented by Ibrahim himself.

Ibrahim said: “The series reveals some of my personal experiences during the month of Ramadan – the Islamic month of fasting. I also discuss various other topics including family, education, charity and food. I have also been raising awareness of the Cambridge Mosque Project throughout the series. This is an initiative to build the city’s first purpose-built mosque. I released this episode in July 2014. In Ramadan Roundup 4, the focus is on food, including casual and friendly interviews with those who observe the month of fasting. I also provide an historical analysis on the Cambridge Mosque Project.”

Ibrahim is a reporter, filmmaker, presenter, blogger, web designer and developer. He graduated with a BSc (Hons) Information Security and Forensic Computing from Anglia Ruskin University. After graduating, Ibrahim’s adventures as a reporter for radio started at BBC Radio Cambridgeshire in 2012, delivering features on Islam for the Sunday Breakfast show.

Ibrahim assisted with the production of a four-part series on Ramadan (the Islamic month of fasting). Devising various questions to focus on fasting, family, prayer and charity, he interviewed a range of local guests. The series was aired in July and August 2013 and repeated again in June-July 2014. He returned in October 2013 to interview pilgrims who previously made the journey to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj (pilgrimage). Ibrahim also covered the Eid celebrations in Cambridge (October 2012, August & October 2013, August 2014).

Ibrahim has a passion for film-making. He was awarded with a diploma for completing a course in TV Production Training at the London Academy of Media, Film and TV in July 2010 – which led him to produce Ramadan Roundup.

The eighth Limelight Film Awards will be announced at a red carpet ceremony on Monday 15th June, from 6.30pm until midnight, in East London. The award categories include Drama, Comedy and Documentary, with four films nominated per category. Each year the awards identify new and emerging film talents, one of whom is awarded the “Film of the Night” Award – a £10,000 production voucher, providing the winner with high end film making facilities for their next project.

Since 2008 the Limelight Film Awards have identified many new film talents who have progressed to producing feature films, programmes and setting up new production companies. “Limelight is unique in providing that much needed platform for new and emerging film makers. Running since 2008, our programme demonstrates the need of the awards and the abundant of talent out there,” said founder and CEO Munsur Ali, a film-maker himself.

The red carpet event – due to be attended by over 500 film-makers, celebrities and media personalities – includes live performances from emerging and celebrated artists and is followed by an after-party. Previous guests and attendees include Femi (Team Kylie Minogue, The Voice), Silvio Simac (Hollywood actor – Transporter 3, Unleashed), Martin Gooch (Harry Potter, Judge Dredd), Sunny and Shay (BBC London), Shaun Williamson (Eastenders, BBC), Ace Bhatti (Eastenders, BBC). Nadeem Leigh (The Voice UK), Konnie Huq (Blue Peter, Xtra Factor), alongside film producers and financiers.
