Hibernate opens today – but not to sleep!

Hang-Up-Hibernate-Campaign_Exhibition-ImageIt’s no wonder that local urban art vessel the Hang-Up Gallery has is sending round a simple, monochrome flyer to give notice of its winter exhibition – there’s so much vibrancy in the winter exhibition that the black and white treatment makes the invite really stand out.

Takashi Murakami takes us into a world where whimsy meets psychedelia with joyous prints that are crying out to be made into oilcloth kitchen table coverings. Recent exhibitor Joe Webb returns with his bold 1950s-inspired designs and many more old and recent favourites have contributed new and recent work which combines to make an eclectic show.

Banksy-Choose-Your-Weapon-WhiteIn celebration of their new gallery space, Hang-Up will be officially opening the doors to their new vaulted Banksy Bunker – a dedicated Banksy room showcasing a permanent collection of the infamous artists’s most sought after works. These are perhaps more muted on the colour front than other works in Hibernate but, as you would expect, there’s much to appreciate in the simple depiction of a simple idea (and, in the chipped paintwork of Banksy Bunker, a hint at where One Housing Group sought their inspiration for their external decoration programme).

Featured artists include Banksy, Harland Miller, Sir Peter Blake, Invader and Takashi Murakami, whose works are hung up alongside new and exclusive works from Dave White, Joe Webb, Lauren Baker, Magnus Gjoen, Mark Powell, Pure Evil, Rosie Emerson, The Connor Brothers and more.

A wander through the visual forest of urban and contemporary art on show will warm you up for the frosty months ahead!
