THE HACKNEY SISTERS, a women’s collective from Clapton, north London, held a fun day and raised £22,766.36 to boost the Ummah Welfare Trust’s Winter Appeal for the suffering people of Syria. The money raised will also be used to purchase urgent medical supplies and equipment.
The charity bazaar included food, clothes, toys, henna, sweets and an auction. Fifty volunteers worked tirelessly day and night to make the event a huge success. All the food sold on the day was freshly prepared at home, and donors fully paid for the ingredients from their own pockets.
Fundraising officer Md Imran said, “This is an outstanding example of how our communities unite to help those in need. We thank everyone for their tremendous enthusiasm and hard work to boost our winter appeal and for also making this such a successful event.”
