Youngsters from London Enterprise Academy (LEA) enjoyed an unforgettable day as they stepped into the historic surroundings of Lord’s Cricket Ground, the globally celebrated Home of Cricket. The special visit, organised by Capital Kids Cricket, welcomed the school’s new Year 7 cohort for a day of sport, inspiration, and aspiration.
Volunteer coaches, including respected community coaches Muhi Mikdad and Emdad Rahman delivered engaging sessions that combined warm ups, batting, bowling, fielding, and fun matches. The activities not only kept the children active but also encouraged teamwork, resilience, and leadership.
The highlight of the day came when the pupils had the opportunity to meet New Zealand icon Kane Williamson. The world class batsman took time to share words of encouragement, speak about his own journey in cricket, and highlight the importance of discipline, respect, and perseverance. Pupils were left in awe and inspired by his humility and achievements, taking away lessons that reached far beyond the sport.
For London Enterprise Academy, the trip reflected the school’s ethos of community engagement, pupil empowerment, and relationship building.
Headteacher Ashid Ali emphasised the importance of such initiatives: “We are committed to giving our pupils the best possible opportunities in life. Experiences like this raise aspirations, develop character, and strengthen the bonds between teachers and students. Meeting a global sporting icon at such a prestigious venue will stay with our pupils forever.”
The benefits of grassroots cricket were on full display and the sport fosters inclusion, bridges communities, and provides young people with confidence and life skills. Through sessions like these, pupils learn the power of teamwork, discipline, and shared achievement.
Coach Muhi Mikdad praised the youngsters’ energy and enthusiasm: “The children were a joy to work with. Cricket is a beautiful game that teaches respect, resilience, and unity. Seeing our young people smiling, learning, and working together at Lord’s is what community sport is all about.”
The trip was a celebration of aspirations, achievements, and the power of opportunity. For the pupils, it was a day of memories made, dreams ignited, and futures inspired at one of the most iconic venues in the world.
