Champions Scintilla start new season with a win

Scintilla Cricket Club – the reigning Essex County Cricket League Premier Division champions – have made a winning start to the new cricket season. In the season’s curtain raiser, the current Premier Division holders saw off Aztecs who chose to bat after winning the toss. Aztecs reached 240/10 from 45 overs, with Monish scoring 68 and Irfan adding 40. Ayaz took 2/34 and Hasib 2/37.

Scintilla took to the field and completed the job in straightforward fashion. Scintilla duly reached 241/8 from 33.4 overs. Man of the match Abul Hasib struck a thunderous 81. He was ably assisted by Zahed Mamun’s 64 knock. Kalpesh achieved 3/44 and Muhib 3/37 for Aztecs.

Scintilla captain Ayaz Karim said: “There will be a lot more pressure on us this season and our character and mettle will be tested outright. With Scintilla being reigning champions every game will be a cup final as our opponents look to wrestle away our trophy. We hope to remain focussed throughout.”
