Breaking the Silence: Community Unites for Menopause Awareness

By Emdad Rahman

The Over Fifty Ladies Consortium is hosting a vital community event titled All You Need to Know About Menopause, aiming to break the silence and stigma surrounding a subject that affects millions of women across the UK.

Taking place on Saturday 21st June 2025 from 4–8PM at CEG Harkness House, Christian Street, London E1 1RX, the event will offer expert advice, shared experiences, and vital support networks for those navigating the journey of menopause.

Menopause can have a profound impact on women, physically, mentally, and emotionally. From hot flushes, sleep disruption, and memory lapses, to anxiety, depression, and loss of confidence, its effects are far reaching and often misunderstood. Many women suffer in silence due to lack of awareness, embarrassment, or insufficient support.

This event, backed by London Features, will shine a light on the realities of menopause and why community awareness and understanding are crucial. It will also focus on the broader impact on family life, workplaces, and relationships.

“Our communities are often too shy to talk about menopause, leaving women isolated during a life changing transition,” said Hafsa Islam, Editor at London Features. “This event is a platform for honesty, empathy, and empowerment. Let’s normalise these conversations and support each other with compassion and knowledge.”

The programme will include health professionals, open Q&A sessions, and lived experience testimonials. The aim is to demystify menopause, improve access to help, and create solidarity among women of all backgrounds.

The Over Fifty Ladies Consortium, a grassroots network of women leading community empowerment initiatives, believes that tackling menopause stigma is essential. “The ‘gaff’ is menopause,” one organiser remarked, using a cheeky nod to the slang term, “but it’s time to face it with humour, hope, and help.”

Everyone is welcome. Admission is free, and refreshments will be served.
