CLLR BODRUL Choudhury, Aspire councillor for Bromley South, is steaming with fury on behalf of residents in two tower blocks in his ward.
“I am very concerned about the situation at Gayton House and Sleaford House,” he explained. “These large blocks both have 17 stories – and they are riddled with problems. The residents are really suffering.”
Cllr Choudhury said that many of the problems are due to mismanagement of water: there have been leaks and floods and problems with the drainage system. For over a year, windows at each end of the corridors have been left open – apparently due to some fire safety issue. However, this is leaving the corridors, and the flats, very cold – especially during the January weather. Some residents are having to leave their heating on 24/7, and many are struggling with the extra cost.
There are also problems with internal “security” gates, which means post has to be left in the communal corridor rather than being delivered to each flat.
Landlord Poplar Harca has said that the windows need to be left open until they are able to carry out some remedial works. However, residents have been waiting for a year – and there is no information from the landlord on when the works will be done.
Cllr Choudhury said that he would be writing to Poplar Harca to find out what is going to be done. In the meantime, Harca officers are due to meet residents later today, 9th January: residents and Cllr Choudhury hope there will be some answers from their landlord.
